My friend and I walked this path mid Sept. We did the walk over two days stopping at Castle Acre overnight. We found the path very difficult to follow at times and if it were not for our O/S maps (Explorer 236 & 238, thoroughly recommended) I don`t think we would have found our way at all. We were constantly cross checking our position as we could not rely on markers at junctions or turn off points.
The paths were well kept but very wet and boggy at the approach to Castle Acre common. This area would be problematic to pass after heavy rain.
The best part of the walk in our opinion was between Narborough and Castle Acre.

I ve walked most of the Nar valley way. Most of the walk is beautiful especially between Castle Acre and Shouldham. I walked between Castle Acre and West Acre recently (Easter 07) and went off the path slightly and followed the river bank. I was amazed to see the number of Adders sunning themselves. I saw at least 50 or 60 which was a huge concern for me as i only had shorts on and they where everywhere! Just before i reached West Acre i noticed a sign which read "Bird and Snake Sanctuary"! My advice is to stick to the path during spring and early summer, even though you are permitted to walk along the river, if you want to avoid being bitten!

Having walked this way in both directions we got lost several times as a result of poor signing. The wooden posts are fine, but on entering the woods at Shouldham Warren, especially from the North, and coming through the woods to cross the A47 the paths are not marked. Bring your compass!

This walk when leaving Kings Lynn passes through a building site which causes confusion to where you should go. We walked into a residential area and got to the A17 that way before resuming the cprrect path. This walk does have some nice woodland walks throughout.

The road between East and West Lexham is used as a "rat run" particularly in the mornings and evenings with cars travelling relatively fast on a single track road with no walkway or verge.
